Travel to Bolivia: Salar de Uyuni

Location: Located in southwestern Bolivia.
Area: 12,000 km2
Altitude: 3.700m
With an area equivalent to the size of Belgium, the Salar de Uyuni is the world’s largest salt flat. Consists of approximately 11 layers, with thicknesses ranging between 2 and 10 meters, the crust is on the surface has a thickness of 10 meters and it is estimated that the amount of salt content is 64 billion tons.
Additionally, the salt flat is one of the largest reserves of lithium and has large amounts of potassium, boron and magnesium.
Huge fully flat, white plain, this infinite extension is the rest of a sea that filled the altiplano to Lake Titicaca, and in the course of many millions of years disappeared. Today, Lake Titicaca, Lake Poopó, and the salt flats of Uyuni Coipasa and are remnants of this sea.
