The world’s highest island: Isla del Sol

If we were asked to hit the island which is highest in the world, perhaps we would think of Hawaii or some other peaks which draw a high profile.
But the surprise is that the world’s highest island is the Isla del Sol “in Bolivia. In absolute terms, counting from sea level that there is no excess.
It is located in the heart of Lake Titicaca and to reach it you have to go from La Paz to the town of Copacabana and then to cross by boat.
La Isla del Sol is a reserve so the visit must be very respectful. We will find the Inca ruins of “Iñacuyo” with statues honoring the sun and moon, according to tradition, were respectively molded gold and silver. The legend also says that the God Viracocha commanded the moon to get up each day from the sky in this island.
Sun Island
One of the most interesting is undoubtedly the Temple of the Sun or Chinkana, (photo) a labyrinthine complex of Inca ruins, dedicated to the great god of the sun.
