Travel to Bolivia: Tiahuanaco

It is located at 3880m above sea level, a few miles from Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian Altiplano. “Tiwanaku” is one of the key archaeological sites of pre-Columbian world. Its name means “City of the Gods.”
Built by the Aymara people, according to some sources, “this city religious or ceremonial center, is considered the capital of pre-Inca civilization being perhaps the oldest city in the world.
As with many ancient sacred sites, their remains are still an enigma among researchers speculate about its origin and purpose. Some people will find similarities to Teotihuacan, Mexico or that relate to the lost continent of Atlantis because, apparently, this city was a seaport entrenched in the Andes.
According to chronicles, when the Spanish arrived in command of Diego de Almagro, in 1535, they were astonished at the remains of megalithic structures, some of whose blocks of stone weighing over 100 tons. They also spoke of the four pyramids beside the Palace of the sarcophagus, of which no trace remains.
